Puyallup is a city in Pierce County, Washington, about 10 miles southeast of Tacoma and 35 miles south of Seattle. Meaning "the generous people," Puyallup was named after the local Puyallup Native American tribe by Ezra Meeker, the city's first mayor who found his way to Puyallup via the Oregon Trail. The city of Puyallup is built around the Puyallup Fairgrounds, home of the Washington State Fair that attracts over 1 million people a year. Puyallup is also known for its historic buildings, plethora of antique stores, and clear views of Mt. Rainier to the southeast.
