Located to the west of South Tacoma is the city of University Place. Officially formed as a city in Pierce County in 1995, University Place is primarily residential and boasts stunning views of Mount Rainier, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains. Chambers Bay Golf Course, Curran Apple Orchard, and Titlow Park are the most popular draws to University Place. Chambers Bay was certified as a Silver Signature Sanctuary by Audubon International in 2007, and hosted the U.S. Open in 2015. Curran Apple Orchard is a 7.33 acre apple orchard that offers nature programs and volunteer opportunities, as well as summer concerts. Titlow Park is a tranquil park on Puget Sound providing beach frontage, trails, playgrounds, spraygrounds, picnic areas, and an estuary lagoon. The historic Titlow Lodge constructed in 1911 still remains on the property.
